Our client is a leading legal aid foundation dedicated to representing the under-represented. Reporting to the CEO, the HR Director will join a dynamic leadership team serving an employee population of 90 in a motivating and collaborative work environment. In this unique opportunity you will build the HR function in an established organization, adding long-needed infrastructure that will drive organizational capabilities to achieve the larger mission.

What you will get to do:

* Build a world-class HR function
* Lead the HR function through the entire employee life cycle - simultaneously creating and executing effective HR programs
* Serve as a thought partner to senior leaders as a member of the senior leadership team
* Act as a coach and development partner to other management
* Develop and implement critical HR programs and capabilities:

* Performance management
* Talent acquisition and retention
* Employee handbooks and policy
* Employee development and training

* Administer all employee benefit programs
* Develop and model effective employee-relations programs and activities that drive a positive culture and meaningful career experiences
* Work with employees passionate about helping others
* Supervise/mentor a team of 2-3

What we are looking for:

* Ability to work effectively at both the strategic and tactical levels
* Commitment to building a great work environment and programs that accomplish the organizations goals
* Demonstrated leadership, change management, project management and HR program development/execution skills
* Solid HR professional with current knowledge of state and federal employment laws, employee benefits, and effective policy
* A perspective that compliance is necessary while maintaining focus on building organizational capabilities
* Experience in a non-profit, specifically in a direct-service or community organization preferred as is experience working in a union environment
* HR certification also preferred
* Commitment to the organization's mission and Race Equity Initiative
